Restoring Hardknott Forest
We are restoring one of the largest conifer plantations in the Lake District National Park to native woodland, for the benefit of people, nature and our climate.
The Restoring Hardknott Forest Project is a partnership between Forestry England and the University of Leeds. We are combining practical conservation, informed by research and monitoring, to create and restore 630 hectares of native woodland and other wildlife rich habitats. We welcome volunteers and students to help with monitoring, research and practical restoration. We hope our project will inspire other efforts to restore and expand woodlands around the UK.
